To emulate His ways (Deu 28:9)
the stage is covered in dirt
a GARDENER digs a hole in the ground
he plants and covers a seed
he digs a new hole a couple of feet away
plants and covers a new seed
moves on to a new hole
on and on he goes
until he has planted flowers in orderly rows across the stage
he then rolls a small boulder onto one of the newly planted flowers
rolls a second boulder onto another flower
he looks up to the fly space and snaps his fingers
a torrent of rain falls
he snaps his fingers
the rain stops and the sun shines
he alternated between bringing on rain and sunshine
roses begin growing onstage
they grow and grow until they reach full maturity
the stage is lined with roses
except in the spot where there are the two boulders
the GARDENER goes to the first boulder
moves it aside
an Enormous Rose the size of a tower shoots out of the ground
and crashes into the theater’s roof
the GARDENER moves the second boulder
no rose pops out of the ground
instead a LUMBERJACK climbs out of the dirt
the LUMBERJACK goes to the Enormous Rose
he chops it down
he drags the Enormous Rose offstage
and in doing so crushes plenty of the other roses onstage
the GARDENER observes the carnage
