79: To wear tefillin on the head

The Book of Love of God
Laws of Tefillin, Mezuza and Sefer Torah
To wear tefillin on the head (Deut. 6:8)
onstage is a recently used guillotine
a headless body is prostrate before the blade
a head lay one the ground a few feet away
a pool of blood between the two parts of the body
a YOUNG MAN enters with tefillin in his hand
he sits beside the head
he takes the head in his arms and cradles it tenderly
the YOUNG MAN gently kisses the head
the YOUNG man picks up the tefillin he brought
he wraps it around the corpse’s head as best he can
it’s difficult without arms to run the straps to
once the tefillin box is sufficiently steady
the YOUNG MAN bows his head
and prays over the corpse
a JANITOR enters
begins to mop up the blood
a CONSTRUCTION WORKER enters
begins to take apart the guillotine
an EXECUTIONER enters
begins to take away the headless body
none of them acknowledge the YOUNG MAN
who keeps praying over the head
