WHAT A WORLD! WHAT A WORLD! at the Tank
To my dear Ghost subscribers,
It's been just under a year since I completed the 613 Mitzvot Project and last wrote to you. I hope you've found some joy and calm in the past year.
I am writing to you not about 613 Mitzvot, but a different project of mine.
(I promise not to use this newsletter for this kind of outreach too much, but if you want to hit unsubscribe, I will not take offense!)
I am proud to share that my play, What a World! What a World!, has been selected to headline The Tank NYC's summer season, running from July 9 through August 2 in Manhattan. The play is a kaleidoscopic queer comedy where two performers unravel the forgotten Hollywood film The Pearl of My Oyster, a tragic melodrama about a socialite’s love affair with a brutish fisherman. The performers adapt and reinvent their favorite scenes from the movie. Something new emerges from the old, but will it ever satisfy what they hoped to find within the film, in themselves, and each other?
This project has been in the works since 2019, but due to the pandemic and its residual impacts on the theatre industry, it has taken us much longer to make this production happen than any of us would have liked. So, to finally be in the room with my collaborators again, making this silly-but-serious show feels like a real miracle. We are so grateful that The Tank NYC has granted us use of their venue and resources, but their support alone cannot underwrite the full cost of producing this new play - most crucially, paying all artists an equitable living wage for their labor.
Today I'm writing in hopes you'll be able to support this new project. Would you consider making a donation to support our production?
Developing What a World! What a World! has been a truly special and artistically fulfilling process. If you're in New York City this summer, I look forward to sharing it with you!
All the best,
Eric
